We publish practical walking guides that show their sources and their arithmetic. Here is what we look for, what we decline, and how to pitch.
What we publish
Short, useful guides for people who track their walking: how to measure something properly, how to read a number from a device, how to plan a route or a routine, and how the estimates on this site relate to the real world. The best pitches come from people who walk, hike, coach, teach or work with movement data and can explain one thing clearly.
A published guide credits you by name with a short description of your relevant experience and, where appropriate, a link to your own site or profile.
What we decline
Weight-loss promises, supplement or product promotion, affiliate content, sponsored placements, articles written to place links, invented statistics, and text generated without editing. We also decline anything that gives individual medical advice.
Standards
Original work only, with primary sources for any figure that is not simple arithmetic. Plain English, US or UK spelling used consistently, and a clear distinction between fact, estimate and opinion. Most guides run between 700 and 1,500 words; the topic decides the length. We edit for clarity and accuracy and show you the edited version before it goes live.
How to pitch
Use the contact form and choose “Pitch a guide”. Describe the guide in a few sentences, say why you are the right person to write it, and link to one example of your writing. We reply to pitches we can use; any fee or other terms are agreed in writing before you start.

Terms, including whether a fee applies, are agreed in writing for each commissioned guide before it is written. We do not state a standard rate here.
Can I include a link to my website?
One relevant link in your author description is normal. Links inside the guide must serve the reader and point to primary sources or genuinely useful pages.
