Estimates, not advice

Disclaimer

The limits of the estimates on stepcalculator.co: they are arithmetic models with visible assumptions, not measurements or health advice.

Not medical or fitness advice

The calculators and guides on this site are educational. They do not diagnose, treat or prevent any condition, do not prescribe exercise or food intake, and do not predict weight change. If you have a health condition, are pregnant, are recovering from injury or are unsure whether an activity is appropriate for you, seek advice from a qualified professional before changing your routine.

How the estimates can differ from reality

Distance results multiply your step count by one step length. The default 30-inch step is a worked example, not your measurement, and real step length changes with pace, terrain and fatigue. Time results assume a steady speed with no stops. Energy results use standardised MET values from the Adult Compendium of Physical Activities, which describe activity categories for adults aged 19–59 rather than any individual’s metabolism.

Devices such as phones and watches use their own sensors and assumptions, so their figures for the same walk can differ from ours without either being “wrong”.
